Brose in Coburg is installing seat rail manufacturing equipment with a high degree of automation to handle the big order from Volkswagen.
Coburg. In the Brose Group, preparations are well under way for the start of the most extensive large-volume series production ever for manual seat adjusters. The components are to be utilized in three vehicle platforms. Once the series launch of all the car models planned for the middle of next year has taken place, a daily production rate of up to 15,000 pieces is anticipated. Brose will be supplying the VW Group with an annual total of 4.4 million manual seat height adjusters and 3.5 million manual seat length adjusters. At the end of October 2002, the first seat height and length adjusters for the Audi A3 and the VW Touran will go into series production in Coburg.
The seat rail manufacturing equipment to be installed in late summer deploys an unprecedented high degree of automation for this product. New production technologies such as laser welding are also involved.
In May, the Brose Group received the VW order to supply manual seat length adjusters for the successor model of the Jetta. The vehicle is built by VW de Mexico in Puebla. From spring 2004, it is intended to annually produce about 500,000 adjusters, initially in Coburg.
Success achieved with power lower seat frames
From March 2003, Brose will also be supplying the power seat lower frames for the three VW platforms. About 400,000 pieces are to be annually produced in Coburg. The company is currently producing the power lower seat frames for the Audi A4, the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne SUV as well as in modified form for the VW Phaeton and the Audi A8.
