What makes a town attractive to students?

Coburg (July 1, 2010). Is Coburg attractive to students? Coburg University’s “fugenlos” studio is running an exhibition presenting the results of a survey, part of a research project looking at the attractiveness of Coburg as a university town.

With the help of Brose, the university has been using the premises on Coburg’s market square for several years for exhibitions like this one that promote dialogue between the university and the population.

Coburg is home to around 40,000 people. About 10 per cent of them study at the university – but only a few of them are to be seen in the town centre.
What Coburg’s 4,000 or so students are looking for and the town’s potential to change and meet these needs can now be seen in an exhibition in the university’s “fugenlos” studio, where students are presenting the findings of a survey they conducted as part of a research project led by Prof. Veronika Hammer.

The project, which is researching student quality of life and lifestyles in Coburg, is investigating how students feel about Coburg, what quality-of-life aspects are important to them and what can be done to improve their integration in the town centre. The aim is to offer young people incentives to experience the town of Coburg as a place to learn and relax, and to discover its potential as a long-term place of residence.

The exhibition in the “fugenlos” studio at number 7, Herrngasse runs until Tuesday, 31 August 2010. The opening times are Fridays 1 pm to 7 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm.
