Brose is sponsoring the current team and is thus, for the second time, helping to provide students an opportunity to gain practical experience in design and production as well as business management in automobile production.
The international Formula Student Germany competition has been organized by the Association of German Engineers since 2006. When developing a racing car fit for competition, students combine business tasks such as cost calculation or developing a marketing concept with technical aspects in interdisciplinary project work.
For several months, some 50 students from different degree courses, e.g. Automotive Technology and Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Information Technology, work together to develop and construct a new racing car.
Michael Pötzl, President of the University of Applied Sciences, is proud of this cooperation: "There is nothing more rewarding than an interdisciplinary team that crosses borders to find new didactic approaches and become a pioneer for the entire university."
When developing the Monoposto, a classic single-seater racing car with externally-mounted wheels, the design team was able to achieve three objectives: improved driver ergonomics, optimized motor design as well as better production accuracy.
To ensure they are fully prepared to compete against 77 strong rival teams from all over the world, team leader Monica Crowley announced test races on the CAT test track in Nordalben and on the Coburg-Brandensteinebene airfield for June 23rd and 24th, respectively. "We want to simulate a race so as to best prepare our team for the Formula Student Racing in Hockenheim," explained Crowley.
However, racing performance is just one of the disciplines to be evaluated in the international competition taking place at the Hockenheimring from August 4th - 8th, 2010. Students are also judged in the categories: design, financial planning and marketing concept.
Brose wishes the Coburg team every success in the upcoming test race and in this year's competition.
