The orchestra’s new music festival will be held this summer from July 16 to 25 and staged every two years in future. The 2010 Biennial is dedicated to Gustav Mahler, who was born 150 years to the day on July 7, and so its motto is “Late Mahler”.
Back in 2007 Michael Stoschek, Chairman of the foundation’s Board of Trustees, had the idea of asking the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra to stage a concert on behalf of its home city's World Heritage Foundation. And with success: the opening concert, which will be held at Bamberg Concert and Congress Hall on Friday, July 16, 2010, starting at 7 p.m., offers a very special opportunity to combine support for the foundation and enjoy a feast of culture.
“We are very proud to bear the name of our city on stages around the world on our many foreign tours. However, Bamberg is and will remain the heart of our musical activities,” is how director Wolfgang Fink explains the motivation of the orchestra, which would like to express its thanks to the city in this way.
Tickets for the concert priced 80 euros and special packages can be ordered from the foundation’s manager Werner Kühhorn at Bamberg Town Hall, Maximiliansplatz 3, phone +49 (0)951/87-1211, or by e-mail at info@stiftungweltkulturerbe.de. All proceeds will go to the World Heritage Foundation.
